Tim Conway destroys his castmates during a “Mama’s Family” sketch on the “Carol Burnett Show” by refusing to let the scene continue until he can finish a story about a circus elephant. Unedited!

This stuff is the best. I have to laugh out loud when I watch it, and it brings back great memories. I don’t think that with today’s programming they would allow so much time to just watch the cast laugh.

I had read that Dick Van Dyke didn’t feel that he was working very well on the show. For those of you who were able to see him when he was a castmember, how was he?

@jdenicol They are, but it’s those half-hour “Carol Burnett and Friends” reruns that were usually shown during the summer when the show was on hiatus. TV Land recently aired them a few years ago. I’m sure the music rights are a big issue as well…

‘Genius’ is such an over-used word but there’s really no other way to describe Tim Conway in this sketch!! Every single facet from timing to delivery is executed brilliantly and the end result is a piece of priceless comedy that will last throughout the ages!!!!

…And second, when the best they could come up with was the “Carol Burnett and Friends” debacle, in which the shows were cut in half and then scissored even more to fit in as many commercials as possible. A shabby way to treat the last of the great variety shows.

My favorite out-take of all time! Thank you for this! But you know, the tragedy of this brilliant show cuts two ways: first that no one at CBS had the foresight to preserve ALL of the CB shows (it originally debuted in 1967)…

I felt for D Van Dyke, Vicki, and Carol for having to try to stay in focus when Tim let loose. Please put this stuff back on reruns. A lot of people could learn a lot about why this was the golden age of TV. (Even Tim could not keep himself in 1 piece)

If only sketch comedy was this funny nowadays. If a show like SNL could pull off something this funny for five minutes a WEEK it’d be worth watching.

The timing was perfect. Tim Conway knew he could get a huge laugh if he could convey the next thought after the “lovers” rumor. All he got was “Elephant squashed” and it killed.

Look at the floor between Dick Van Dyke’s feet. There’s a dark spot. What happened? Did he wet himself??
